| Take
an eye-opening journey through the inner workings of the human body, exploring
specific areas of anatomy including the nervous, respiratory, circulatory,
cardiovascular, muscular, digestive and reproductive systems. See muscles,
bones and tendons that help us move; study the parts and organs that allow
us to fuel our bodies; view the complex pathways of our vascular system;
and realize just how human life is made possible.
A 22,000-square-foot exhibit, Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: The Anatomical
Exhibition of Real Human Bodies features more than 200 authentic human
specimens, including entire bodies, individual organs and transparent
body slices. Using the revolutionary process of "plastination," invented
by German anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977, the specimens are
preserved with special plastics that enable us to view the many layers
and systems under the skin, and see how our bodies respond internally
to everyday movement. See how the body works when it is healthy and breaks
down when it is not!
Additional $2 fee for audio tour in English or Spanish.
School classes must obtain parent or guardian permission for each child
visiting BODY WORLDS with their school. Download the permission form here;
to access additional information about the exhibit, and obtain educational
materials visit www.fi.edu/bodyworlds.
In the Tuttleman IMAX Theater
The Human Body Through June 15
The Human Body helps new audiences discover the complexity of the human
body. Combining innovative filmmaking techniques with advanced medical
and scientific imaging, the film lets us look in microscopic detail at
daily biological processes.

Live Shows and Workshops
The Giant Heart Workshop Grades 3-5*
This program explores the form and function of the heart, and the importance
of caring for this incredible organ. Be part of a "Heart Relay Race" learning
how the heart pumps blood through the body via the circulatory system,
and what happens as blood makes the roundtrip circuit through the body.
Minimum 30 students; maximum 60. 30 min. Reservation required.
Within the Skin Show Grades 3-5 and
6-8
Come with us on a wild journey through the human body. Discover how what
we eat is digested and turned into energy, how the muscular and nervous
systems work and what blood accomplishes on its journey through the body.
Minimum 30 students; maximum 250. 30 min. Reservation required.
Eyeball Dissection Workshop Grades 6-8*
The eye, while small in size, is a very complex organ and has a huge impact
on our lives. Students will dissect a real cow eye to explore the function
and structure of a mammalian eye, and learn about vision. Minimum 30 students;
maximum 60.
Heart Dissection Grades 9-12*
Working under the direction of a trained museum instructor,
each student will dissect a sheep's heart to learn about its internal
and external structure. Minimum 30 students; maximum 60.
Body Breakdown Show Grades 9-12*
What happens when you die and your body breaks down? Explore each body
system as it shuts down, and learn how it affects the corpse-like after
death twitching and pooling blood. Learn how methods like life support,
cryonics, plastinization and embalming slow down the process. Students
will explore the body on both a systemic and cellular level during this
live, interactive show. Minimum 30 students; maximum 140. 30 min. Reservation
required.
*Available with BODY WORLDS and Giant Heart
Experiences only.
