Ten Weeks of Action-Packed, Hands-On Science FUN!

Ten Weeks of action-packed, Hands-on & Minds-on Science FUN!!!

This summer your camper can see one of Galileo's two remaining telescopes, find out if they have what it takes to survive a natural disaster, and recreate some of chemistry's messiest moments. Our goal throughout is to get our campers excited about science and to nurture their spirit of inquiry and discovery!

Each day of Discovery Camp includes hands-on science activities, a snack, and break for lunch, outdoor play (weather permitting) and museum exploration. Depending on the sessions, campers may also have the opportunity to take field trips, hear from invited guest speakers, see theater shows and educational films, and take part in large-scale, camp wide projects.

We challenge each camper to take a closer look at the world and see that science is a part of everything. No matter where science fits into their future plans, the scientific discoveries that campers make at Discovery Camp will enrich their lives forever.

Applications for spring and summer Discovery Camp counselor positions are posted in the Employment Opportunities section of the website. Please review the Volunteer Opportunities offered during Summer Discovery Camp.

Camp Structure
Discovery Camp begins and ends with a week of Discovery Days. In between are four two-week sessions, for campers to enjoy as many as ten fun-filled weeks of camp!

Each session's theme is independent of the others, so campers need not attend sessions consecutively, allowing flexibility to work around your family vacations. Campers should attend a full session to experience the greatest academic value. Split sessions are not permitted.

Camp hours are 9AM to 4PM, with an optional early arrival beginning at 8AM and late departure until 5:30PM (for an additional fee).

Take a look at Discovery Camp Highlights for a preview of the fun activities campers will participate in throughout the summer!

Fees
The session fee applies to the regular 9AM to 4PM schedule for one child for two weeks, and includes one Discovery Camp t-shirt, drinks provided by Coca-Cola, a daily snack, a Discovery Camp baseball hat, camp newsletter, and all activity supplies.
Fees include admission to the Galileo exhibit, but not Star Trek: The Exhibition.
$550 for members; $605 for non-members. Discovery Days 1 & 2: $300 each (1 wk. session)

Save $25 on Discovery Days when you register for a regular two week session!

Extended Day Programs (no discounts apply):
Early Arrival: $60/session from 8 to 9AM ($30 for Discovery Days 1 or Discovery Days 2)
Extended Departure: $80/session from 4 to 5:30PM ($40 for Discovery Days 1 or Discovery Days 2)

Children who arrive before 9AM or stay later than 4PM without the Extended Day Program will be charged a $15 per day penalty.

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available based on academic achievement and financial need, as well as scholarships for minorities and girls who exhibit an interest in science. Applications may be found online ONLY. Scholarship applications now available for download.

Staff
Discovery Camp counselors are teachers, college students, and upper level high school students with a proven interest in science and child care experience. In addition, counselors-in-training (CITs) and interns provide extra support and instruction.

To enter the CIT program, you must be at least 15 years old. Contact the Volunteer department directly at 215.448.1163.
