Membership at an ASTC museum, such as The Franklin Institute, provides free admission to over 250 science and technology centers throughout the world. See below for more details.
Restrictions for All
Any museums located within 90 miles of The Franklin Institute (measured "as the crow flies," not by driving distance) are excluded from this reciprocal program. Free admission to participating museums does not guarantee free admission to specially-ticketed exhibits or shows at these museums. Also, each museum reserves the right to define "family Membership" and "number in family." Museums are subject to admission or deletion from the ASTC Program without notice. NOTE: Any museums located within 90 miles of The Franklin Institute (measured "as the crow flies," not by driving distance) are excluded from this reciprocal program.
Restrictions for Some
Some institutions require verification that you also LIVE more than 90 miles from their location in order to be eligible for reciprocal benefits. This residency restriction is noted on the official list with the notation (✔ IDs). NOTE: The Franklin Institute does enforce the 90 mile residency restriction. When checking into our museum, all reciprocal Members must provide proof that their residences are beyond 90 miles of The Franklin Institute.
Members of The Franklin Institute must present their Franklin Institute Membership card along with photo identification to receive free admission to reciprocal museums. If you are traveling and need proof of Membership faxed or emailed to you, contact the Membership Office at 215.448.1200 at least 3 days prior to your visit. Telephone lines are open daily, 9:00AM-5:00PM.
Please contact each museum prior to your visit to confirm reciprocity and their specific entrance policy.
Reciprocal ASTC Members MUST provide physical proof of Membership AND residence upon arrival at The Franklin Institute. Acceptable proof of Membership includes a Membership ID card or a Membership confirmation letter on your home institution's letterhead. The Franklin Institute does not accept fax transmittals on reciprocal Members' behalf, nor will we make or receive phone calls for verification from host Museums. Also, The Franklin Institute will not accept proof of reciprocal membership via electronic media, including images and text from cell phones or laptops. Admission paid due to failure to provide physical proof of reciprocal Membership will not be refunded after the fact.
Reciprocal admission is valid for General Admission (Science Museum exhibits and Fels Planetarium) ONLY and does not afford any additional benefitssuch as Theater and Traveling Exhibition rates or discounts on purchases and special events/programsas received by Franklin Institute Members. Theater admission is $6 per person for IMAX® and $4 per person for the Franklin Theater. Please note that reduced Theater rates do not apply to major motion pictures.
The Franklin Institute reserves the right to determine how many visitors are accepted for each Membership. Two adults and four children (ages 3-11) is the maximum number of visitors admitted under the reciprocal agreement. However, for Memberships that indicate lesser coverage, fewer admissions will be granted. For example, an Individual Membership would allow one person free admission at The Franklin Institute; a Dual Membership would allow two, etc.
