The "I" Art Project for Identity

November 16 2007 - April 20 2008

It's a show that's as unique as you are, loaded with interactive exhibits that pick up on your unique clues - the physical, psychological and social elements that make you, you.

The Art of I

"Every man's work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself." - Samuel Butler

At the end of the exhibit there will be a large gallery space called "The Art of I." School groups, members and visitors coming to the Identity exhibit are invited to bring a collage representing three elements that define who they are: an inherited physical trait, a social trait, and a psychological trait, to correspond with the three areas of the exhibit. The artwork will be mounted as part of a collage that will be installed on the walls in the final section of the exhibit.

One wall in this exhibit is reserved for working artists of Philadelphia.

The Franklin Institute would like to invite working artists to participate in the "Art of I" contest. Each artist who enters the contest will contribute a piece of art (no larger than 2' x 5') that expresses their Identity. It can be a portrait, a collage, a photograph or a painting that is ready to hang. The artwork will be installed on the artist wall, and visitors to the exhibit will vote on a winner, who will be selected by December 31, 2007. The winner's artwork will be displayed exclusively for the month of January, and will be featured on our website!
