Themed to complement the Identity exhibit, and continuing the Out of Africa lecture series, The Franklin Institute welcome Dr. Spencer Wells, Explorer in Residence at National Geographic Society and Director of the Genographic Project. Dr. Spencer Wells has dedicated much of his career to studying humankind’s family tree and closing the gaps in our knowledge of human migration through DNA. The Genographic project is gathering and analyzing the world’s largest collection of anthropological DNA samples from hundreds of thousands of participants worldwide and tracing it all back to Africa - over 60,000 years ago.

"Celebrating Black Identity" - January 19, 20
The Franklin Institute continues its Identity programming with a special Martin Luther King weekend entitled "Celebrating Black Identity." Numerous activities are planned, including a preview by acclaimed professor Dr. Molefi Asante of his upcoming photo-essay book entitled Black Identity in Philadelphia,and a special performance by the Intermezzo Choir Ministry.
